Graduate Student Speaker Commencement 2007

A native of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Whitney Usher Evans is graduating today with a degree in communication, with an emphasis in video production and a minor in Spanish. She was an Honors Program participant at Mason.

At Mason, Hopkins has enjoyed participating in and supporting many activities, and her course work has allowed her to experience different areas of the university. She has worked with the Fairfax County Health Department on a hand-washing campaign on campus. A full-time student, Hopkins also has worked at the University Club of Washington, D.C.

Evans attended Gulf Breeze High School, where she participated in the award-winning drama program, the National Honor Society, and the student run television station. At Mason, she continued to pursue her interest in television, through work at GMU-TV as an assistant editor and various internships. She was an intern with the Specials Department of National Geographic Television, a production company called Creative Differences, and the Washington Bureau of the BBC. Evans is now a freelance producer, working with radio, television, and the web.

Evans would like to thank her parents, Michael and Terry, and her brother, Chris, for supporting her through all 16 years of school, and her Aunt Maureen, Uncle Jerry, and Grandpa Evans for making her years away from home seem like home.
